Summary

Diamond Naturals Kitten Chicken & Rice Formula is designed to support the developmental needs of growing kittens and nursing adult cats.
The first ingredient is fresh chicken, offering a highly digestible and biologically appropriate protein source critical for early growth stages.
It provides 34% crude protein and 22% crude fat, delivering dense energy and supporting the development of lean muscle and cognitive function.
Salmon oil enriches the formula with DHA at 0.05%, which is essential for proper brain and vision development during kittenhood.
Natural fibers, such as dried chicory root, and superfoods like kale, pumpkin, and quinoa promote healthy digestion and antioxidant protection.
Taurine is included at a minimum of 0.15%, addressing the critical heart and eye development needs of kittens.
Probiotics, including Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species, are added post-cooking to guarantee 80 million CFU/lb for digestive and immune system support.
The recipe contains no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives, maintaining a natural nutritional profile for sensitive young cats.

1

High-Protein Growth Formula

Contains 34% crude protein primarily from chicken, chicken meal, and fish meal to sustain rapid kitten growth and muscle development.
2

Rich in Healthy Fats

Offers 22% crude fat content and Omega-6 at 3.5% minimum, providing energy density and supporting skin and coat health during early development.
3

DHA for Brain Development

Includes DHA at 0.05% sourced from salmon oil to promote cognitive function and visual acuity in kittens.
4

Probiotic-Enriched Digestive Support

Infused with at least 80 million CFU/lb of beneficial bacteria like Lactobacillus acidophilus for gut flora balance and better nutrient absorption.
5

Diverse Superfood Ingredients

Features nutrient-dense foods such as spinach, blueberries, chia seed, and coconut for a broad spectrum of antioxidants and vitamins.
6

No Artificial Additives

Free from synthetic colors, flavors, and chemical preservatives, prioritizing a cleaner, more natural diet.
Cons
Expand All
1

High Fat Content May Require Portion Control

With 22% crude fat, overfeeding could lead to unnecessary weight gain if not carefully managed, especially in indoor kittens.
2

Includes Grains

Brown rice and ground white rice are present, which may not suit kittens requiring strict grain-free nutrition due to sensitivities.
3

Relatively Low DHA Level

The 0.05% DHA content, although present, is modest compared to more premium kitten diets that emphasize higher DHA concentrations.
4

Presence of Dried Yeast

While nutritionally beneficial, yeast can cause sensitivity reactions in a small subset of cats.
5

Fish Ingredients May Trigger Allergies

Fish meal and salmon meal could be problematic for kittens with fish protein allergies.

Provide as many details as possible about Diamond Naturals: Kitten Chicken & Rice Formula so we can make it better!

How the score is calculated?

The actual calculation of the score is based on sophisticated and advanced algorithm that takes into account multiple parameters.

To simplify the explanation, the calculation is based on three main criteria:

(1) Amount of protein (more is better)

(2) Amount of carbohydrates (less is better)

(3) Quality and source of ingredients.

Based on that 3 main criteria, 9 score calculation rules are used to compare the different foods.

One major assumption is that the closer an ingredient is to the top of the ingredient list, the greater its relative weight and contribution to the food.

In general, cat food is composed of protein, fats, carbohydrates, fibers, vitamins, and minerals.

Protein is the most important component in a cat's diet, and cats primarily get their protein from animal meat.

Fat is a primary source of energy and essential fatty acids.

Carbohydrates are controversial in a cat's diet, as cats are obligate carnivores and typically consume very few carbohydrates.

Fibers play an important role in digestion and food absorption, and vitamins and minerals are essential for different organism functions.

Dry matter values are used to compare the amount of nutrients in different cat foods. This means that moisture is excluded from the equation to provide a more accurate comparison.

Putting all of these and more into a formula results in a product score.

The maximum score a cat food can receive is 100. Points are added or removed based on the score calculation rules.
