Summary

Oven Baked Tradition Grain-free food for cats of all lifestyle and life stages – Duck is a grain-free dry recipe tailored for kittens, adults, and seniors, emphasizing animal-derived protein and a managed mineral profile for everyday wellness.
The first ingredient is deboned duck, a high-quality animal protein that delivers essential amino acids to support lean muscle and overall body maintenance.
Turkey meal, fresh deboned turkey, and duck meal add concentrated animal proteins that enhance the amino acid spectrum and help meet feline carnivorous needs.
At 32% crude protein and 20% fat, the formula provides robust protein and a higher energy density suitable for active cats, with portion control helping match the needs of less active pets.
The carbohydrate content is listed at 24%, with peas and lentils supplying digestible energy and functional fiber that can support satiety and regular bowel function.
Omega-6 at 3.35 and omega-3 at 1.2 support skin and coat health and a balanced inflammatory response, with canola oil serving as a key fat source preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid.
Calcium at 1.8 and phosphorus at 1 indicate strong mineral support for bones and teeth, which is particularly relevant during growth while remaining supportive for adults.
Magnesium at 0.1% and sodium at a minimum of 0.3% reflect attention to mineral and electrolyte balance, important for urinary tract physiology and hydration regulation.
Potassium at 0.6% aids normal muscle and nerve function, and dried beet pulp contributes fermentable fiber that can help promote well-formed stools.
Vitamins A (10000), D3 (750), and E (64) support vision and immune health, calcium metabolism, and antioxidant defenses, while glucosamine and chondroitin at 100 mg/kg each add focused joint-cartilage nutrition; the formula lists metabolizable energy at 3756.

Pros
Expand All
1

Animal-first protein profile

Deboned duck leads the recipe, supported by turkey and duck meals that concentrate amino acids for strong, lean muscle maintenance.
2

Documented fatty acid support

Declared omega-6 (3.35) and omega-3 (1.2) levels help nourish skin, promote a glossy coat, and support a healthy inflammatory balance.
3

Managed minerals for everyday wellness

Magnesium at 0.1% and sodium at ≥0.3% reflect attention to urinary mineral balance and fluid-electrolyte regulation.
4

Functional fiber sources

Beet pulp and legume fibers can aid stool quality and regularity, supporting digestive comfort.
5

Joint-nutrient additions

Glucosamine and chondroitin (100 mg/kg each) provide building blocks for cartilage maintenance.
6

Natural preservation

Mixed tocopherols and citric acid serve as antioxidants that help protect fats from oxidation.
Cons
Expand All
1

Relatively high ash

At 9%, the mineral residue is on the higher side, which some owners may wish to monitor in cats with known urinary sensitivities.
2

Legume-reliant carbohydrates

Peas and lentils contribute a notable share of plant protein and starch, which may not align with preferences for strictly animal-dominant protein sources.
3

Higher energy density

With 20% fat, the recipe is calorie-dense and may require careful portion control for sedentary indoor cats.
4

Limited marine omega-3 sources

No fish oil or named marine ingredient is listed, so EPA/DHA intake may be modest despite total omega-3 content.
5

Elevated calcium for adult-only feeding

Calcium at 1.8 may be higher than some adult-maintenance formulas, which could be more than necessary for adult-only households.
6

Multiple animal proteins

The combination of duck and turkey may not suit cats needing a single-protein, limited-ingredient approach for dietary trials.

Provide as many details as possible about Oven Baked Tradition: Grain-free food for cats of all lifestyle and life stages – Duck so we can make it better!

How the score is calculated?

The actual calculation of the score is based on sophisticated and advanced algorithm that takes into account multiple parameters.

To simplify the explanation, the calculation is based on three main criteria:

(1) Amount of protein (more is better)

(2) Amount of carbohydrates (less is better)

(3) Quality and source of ingredients.

Based on that 3 main criteria, 9 score calculation rules are used to compare the different foods.

One major assumption is that the closer an ingredient is to the top of the ingredient list, the greater its relative weight and contribution to the food.

In general, cat food is composed of protein, fats, carbohydrates, fibers, vitamins, and minerals.

Protein is the most important component in a cat's diet, and cats primarily get their protein from animal meat.

Fat is a primary source of energy and essential fatty acids.

Carbohydrates are controversial in a cat's diet, as cats are obligate carnivores and typically consume very few carbohydrates.

Fibers play an important role in digestion and food absorption, and vitamins and minerals are essential for different organism functions.

Dry matter values are used to compare the amount of nutrients in different cat foods. This means that moisture is excluded from the equation to provide a more accurate comparison.

Putting all of these and more into a formula results in a product score.

The maximum score a cat food can receive is 100. Points are added or removed based on the score calculation rules.
